RTA Groundbreaking Ceremony

Under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of the Executive Council, has laid the foundation stone of Route 2020 (Dubai Metro Red Line Extension) Project during a special ceremony. Route 2020 project covers the extension of the Dubai Metro Red Line 15 km from Nakheel Harbour & Tower Station to the site of Expo 2020.

For the ceremony a unique and futuristic ensemble of temporary structures was chosen and installed. The reception area was built out of a geodesic zendome 300. In the cupola was a vacuum screen installed creating a 360°hemispherical movie theatre played by 7 Barco HDX W20 projectors and a D3 media server. The special created content showed in an impressive way the achievements of the Emirates and RTA in the last 80years.
Leaving the reception, the guests entered the “Time Machine”, a white cube built out of Layher scaffolding and cladded in white shrink wrap. The walls and the ceiling of the inner cube consisted of a high-resolution LED screen to form a completely surrounding projection and creating an immersive media-enhanced space taking the audience on a journey to the future of UAE.

After the time machine the guests entered the main dome (zendome 1000) for the actual ceremony. The ambience was purposely created as a high-class industrial look to visualize the construction, which is about to start. In the following video presentation important topics like youth and opportunities, smart mobility and sustainability were highlighted. At the end, HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum unveiled the model of Route 2020 Metro station and received the special created legacy piece.
